Emma graduated from the West Surrey College of Art & Design with a BA in Fine Art Printmaking in 1984 and has worked full-time as an artist ever since. She now paints mainly in acrylic on board, but her training as a printmaker is evident in the blocks of flat colour she uses and the way she scratches through surfaces to reveal colours underneath. Her inspirations include artists such as Mary Fedden, Milton Avery and Daphne McClure.
“What excites me about making pictures is trying to capture the essence of a place or thing. I am not worried about visual accuracy. I am attracted to vivid colours and the decorative qualities in everyday objects.”
Emma’s distinctive and vibrant work has been widely exhibited and reproduced for use around the world.
